Our Purpose
|
Formed in 2011, Awaaz is a voluntary non-profit
organization based in San Antonio, Texas, that
provides awareness, and culturally appropriate
assistance for South Asian families to break the
cycle of family violence.

Our Mission
|
To promote the self-reliance and empowerment
of victims of family violence through multilingual
confidential outreach, peer support, and
referral services. While serving all survivors of
family violence we seek to address the special
needs and challenges of women from South
Asian descent. Our goal is to lead the South
Asian community to acknowledge, advocate, and
help survivors fight to end family violence.

Confidential Helpline
Awaaz offers free confidential peer support via
our helpline. All calls not directly answered will
be linked to a confidential voicemail. Messages
will be returned by Awaaz Advocates within 24
hours. Awaaz volunteers currently speak:
English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, and Oriya.
Family violence affects people of all ages,
ethnic backgrounds, educational backgrounds,
and economic levels. While predominantly
affecting women, children, seniors, and men are
also known victims of family abuse.
