Outreach

Educating South Asian Communities on Domestic Violence

Our trained volunteers work to raise awareness about domestic violence and its far-reaching, multi-generational impact within South Asian communities. We provide critical information on resources and options, empowering survivors to make informed decisions.

Our efforts include:

  • Hosting in-person seminars and webinars to foster dialogue and reflection

  • Creating informative videos, slide presentations, and skits

  • Engaging the community through outreach booths and resource tables at local South Asian events

  • Publishing a quarterly newsletter featuring in-depth articles and culturally tailored content

Through these initiatives, we aim to reduce stigma, spark meaningful conversations, and ensure community members know where to turn for help.

Cultural Education for Domestic Violence Resource Organizations

Awaaz actively partners with domestic violence and allied service organizations to build cultural competence and strengthen service delivery for South Asian survivors. We help professionals understand the unique cultural contexts that may shape how survivors seek help, disclose abuse, or navigate systems.

Our initiatives include:

  • Conducting in-person and virtual presentations for advocates, attorneys, healthcare providers, and law enforcement

  • Hosting dialogue-based trainings and cultural Q&A sessions

  • Sharing educational materials and curated cultural guides

  • Inviting service providers to South Asian community events and conversations to build trust

By bridging cultural gaps, Awaaz strengthens cross-sector collaboration and improves outcomes for South Asian survivors in both crisis response and long-term recovery.

Community Engagement and Local Partnerships

Awaaz is committed to raising awareness about domestic violence throughout the broader San Antonio area and South Texas communities. While our services are culturally informed, our outreach efforts are inclusive and rooted in shared values of safety, dignity, and justice for all survivors.

We engage the general public and local organizations by:

  • Participating in citywide and regional awareness events

  • Hosting information tables and speaking engagements at community events, universities, faith centers, and community health fairs

  • Collaborating with coalitions, legal aid groups, and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, survivor-centered care

These efforts help expand the visibility of domestic violence issues, strengthen local referral networks, and promote a community-wide commitment to safety and healing.
